Read a recent article from Inside Higher Ed, Designing Online Courses for Students With Disabilities, by Ashley Mowreader and featuring CHEPP’s paper on how higher education can improve accommodations and build more accessible systems for learners with disabilities. The article highlights how online education can be used as an accessibility tool if designed to meet disability needs. As a guide to accessible design, the article shares the paper’s six key elements of accessible higher education design – transparent availability of resources and access to the disability office, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), centralized systems and consistent use of technology, continuous improvement, and engagement of faculty and staff.
